Solar Panels / Wind Generators

Solar panels and wind generators are viewed as a form of renewable energy, the sun does rise and set every day and the wind does blow but the description is tenuous at best. A more apt term would be describing the power generated by these devices as "Intermittent Power" or "Intermittent Energy". The devices themselves are made from steel, aluminium, doped silicon wafers, glass, copper, magnets, plastics and other items either derived from fossil based feed stock or as a result of Fossil Fuel produced energy. The materials and components required to manufacture a solar panel or a wind generator are produced within very energy intensive industries. Let's explore some of the realities as opposed to the fiction being bandied about with zero analysis and zero questions.

Batteries

The proponents of Solar Panels and Wind Generators say that batteries will be used to keep the grid flush with power should the sun be dimmed by cloud or the wind is not blowing. If you look at the numbers of the Mega-Battery sites that have been installed you very quickly realise that they are not fit for purpose. These expensive Mega-Battery sites will not keep the grid operational for days or weeks if required, merely a few hours, if lucky. Batteries once discharged require charging, if there are weeks of dull days with no wind what will charge these batteries? The idea, the concept is moronic, however no serious debate or analysis is ever entertained. Why?

Global Emissions

For over 600 Thousand years the global Carbon Dioxide levels hovered around 280 PPM. The industrial revolution, that occurred in Britain in the 1700's saw the beginning of the inexorable rise of Carbon Dioxide in our atmosphere. Around 1988 the reading consistently surpassed 350 PPM, over the course of 228 years, based on a starting year of 1750, global Carbon Dioxide levels had grown by 70 PPM (Parts Per Million). As of today, 28th of June 2025, the global CO2 concentration is 429.49 PPM which means over the last 37 years another 79.49 PPM has been added. Some may take the view that without the massive roll out of solar panels and wind generators on a truly massive scale that this number would have been magnitudes higher. It is the authors opinion that this thinking is spectacularly wrong, that in fact the renewable, sorry, "intermittent", energy roll out has acted as a catalyst and sped up the release of CO2 emissions. Heretic, you may be screaming while convulsing and frothing at the mouth. Take a deep breath and look at the processes involved. The mining of rare earths used in green energy and "green tech" applications, particularly in renewable energy and electric vehicles, is someones idea of a sick joke. If the reader can find a more environmentally damaging misuse of resources and energy please, I am all ears. The energy required to mine the raw materials, to then refine feed stock, to smelt materials, to then manufacture the aluminium, silicon, steel, magnets, glass, plastic etc is truly staggering. The greatest irony is that employing planned obsolescence ensures that companies have a growth model going forward. Solar panels require replacing every 20, wind generators every 15 years. Unless of course the wind generators are off shore then this drops to every 7 years.
